Intended Audience

  • People new to Shibboleth who plan to install a Shibboleth 2 Service Provider and Identity Provider.
  • People who plan to install the Shibboleth Service Provider or Identity Provider.

People who have already experience with installing Shibboleth will not learn as much as newcomers during an Install Fest, but depending on their experience they will certainly discover new configuration options.

What will happen at the Install Fest?

1st day afternoon:
Introduction to Shibboleth (presentations and discussion). Depending on the number of participants we split up the introductionary tutorials into a "New to Shibboleth" group and an "Experienced" group.
Remaining time:
You connect your laptops to a closed wired network. You will install and set up a VMware image provided by SWITCH. The virtual machine already contains the Linux OS, with Apache, Java and Tomcat configured. Based on that, the installation and configuration of Shibboleth 2 begins.
2nd day:
Shibboleth Service Provider hands-on installation and configuration on the VM image. Install a Service Provider, basic setup, configure metadata providers, metadata validation, attribute map and attribute policy. Protect an application using lazy/required session. Make a simple application read attributes. Configure access control based on attributes and much more.
3rd day:
Shibboleth Identity Provider hands-on installation and configuration on the VM image. Install IdP, configure basic setup, connect IdP to local LDAP service for authentication and attribute resolution, configure attribute filtering, connecting IdP to SP installed on previous day.
