DANTE engaged in development work for Europe

Planning, constructing and operating pan-European research networks – that is what the non-profit organisation, DANTE, sets out to do. Through its participation, SWITCH clearly highlighted its support for worldwide networking back in 1993 already.

Europe's 15
DANTE, the Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe, is the operator of the European research network. DANTE plans, develops and operates the European education and research network. Today, DANTE is owned by 15 European research networks (see box). SWITCH is one of these.

A brief history of the origin of DANTE
In 1993, 11 European research networks set up DANTE. Since then, the company has been coordinating the activities of the national research networks with the aim of setting up a research network that takes in all the different countries in Europe. DANTE played a decisive role in the planning, implementation and further development of this network, the latest generation of which is currently known by the name of GÉANT.
