GÉANT: "Gigantic" research prospects

Thanks to GÉANT, a good 40 million users in more than 8000 education and scientific institutions all over the world can work together with ease – almost as if they were all working on the same campus.

Worldwide cooperation
The "Gigabit European Academic Network" constitutes the basis for stable and high-performance network services for the academic community in Europe. The network connects Europe's national research networks with each other, as well as with the research networks worldwide. GÉANT promotes pan-European research and cooperation by allowing researchers in Europe and all over the globe to work together closely, despite the distance separating them. Scientific measured data and research results can be made available to all those concerned in just a matter of seconds via GÉANT, even from remote areas.

A new generation
The GÉANT3 project is setting out to make a lasting mark on the future of the internet: besides providing the network, it is innovating network technology and developing services for all users.
