SWITCHconnect Classic allows students and employees of the universities to roam: with their standard university log-in they can surf the Internet via a wireless connection and access the learning resources of their home organisation, irrespective of which campus they happen to be on.
Making people mobile
SWITCH is committed to responding to the increased mobility needs of those belonging to a university: they are frequently to be found travelling, they register for courses at other universities, or they work on joint projects spanning canton boundaries. The requirements placed on the availability of learning resources are thus correspondingly high. Together with the Swiss universities and our SWITCHconnect Classic roaming service, it is our aim to overcome geographical and institutional boundaries.

On the basis of the VPN, the Virtual Private Network, SWITCHconnect Classic guarantees encoded and hence secure data transmission from remote university locations too.
