How to use SWITCHconnect Classic
In order to use SWITCHconnect you must:
-
be a registered user at an organisation that is already participating in SWITCHconnect.
-
be equipped with a VPN (Virtual Private Network) software client from your home organisation and be enabled to use its VPN gateway (users from the University of Lausanne use the proxy-server https://crypto.unil.ch instead of a VPN).
-
be equipped with a wireless network adapter, interoperable with the IEEE 802.11b standard. As visitor at some organisations you can also connect by Ethernet cable, but usually a wireless card is required.
In order to connect to the network, proceed as follows:
-
Connect your client (notebook, PDA) to the wireless network called "public" or "public-institution".
-
Start up your VPN client and connect to your home organisation. Afterwards, you can use the network as usual.
