Eduroam opens virtual doors – worldwide
By granting Swiss universities access to the "eduroam" international roaming platform, we are giving them worldwide access to the Internet – easy and free of charge.
Abroad too: surf just like at home
With the eduroam service, we save researchers, students and employees a great deal of administrative work that they would otherwise have to complete when spending a semester abroad or going on a business trip. This is because, in just a few steps, they can surf the Internet free of charge via the local network of a foreign university and have access to the contents of their home organization: simply power-up your laptop, connect to the local eduroam network and log on with your customary log-in for your home university. No guest access or additional registration is then required.
Set for growth
In addition to eduroam as a WLAN network, the technology can optionally be deployed via cable too. Not only are the majority of European universities and research institutes now represented on eduroam, but also an increasing number of institutions from Canada, the USA and the Asia-Pacific area.
