Eduroam opens virtual doors – worldwide
By granting Swiss universities access to the "eduroam" international roaming platform, we are giving them worldwide access to the Internet – easy and free of charge.
Abroad too: surf just like at home
With "education roaming", or eduroam for short, university members can save themselves a great deal of expense during their next work trip or during a semester spent abroad. Simply power-up your laptop, connect to the local eduroam network where you happen to be and log on using the standard login for your home university. You can then immediately start surfing free of charge in the Internet worldwide and have access to the contents of your home organisation. The standard registration formalities, or a guest access, can then be dispensed with.
Set for growth
In addition to eduroam as a WLAN network, the technology can optionally be deployed via cable too. Not only are the majority of European universities and research institutes now represented on eduroam, but also an increasing number of institutions from Canada, the USA and the Asia-Pacific area.
