How Swiss universities can join SWITCH-PWLAN

a) Are you a student?

Please follow the operating instructions for end users and if necessary contact the IT service at your university.

b) Setup guide for IT managers of universities

Before starting the application procedure verify the technical requirements.

Procedure/Checklist SWITCH PWLAN:

1. Write a mail to mobile@switch.ch regarding your interest in PWLAN.
2. SWITCH will send you the amendment to the Roaming Agreement (RA) for signing.
3. Prove the technical requirements for your educational institution and sign the amendment.
4. Send this signed amendment as a pdf to mobile@switch.ch and a hardcopy to SWITCH, Werdstr.2, P.O. Box, CH-8021 Zurich.

5. Technical implementation: 

5a) Order the ADSL-link with Swisscom:
• Mail to mobile@switch.ch
• Fill in Subject: Order ADSL-link, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION with additional information about UP (Überführungspunkt-Format: UP 10 380)

5b) Evaluation and implementation of a Captive Portal:
• Multi Provider Portal of WLAN-Partner
• Open Source Captive Portal of SWITCH - OCP
   
5c) Configuration of the GRE-tunnel-end-point on the MPP and on the provider side (Monzoon, TheNet, tpn):
• Contact: WLAN Partner for all educational institutions with a support-contract.
• Contact: SWITCH for all educational institutions without a support-contract.
   
5d) Test GRE-tunnel-configuration together with providers, Monzoon & TheNet

5e) Configuration Setup Swisscom for seamless roaming:

• KickOff Meeting with SWITCH and Swisscom: Introduction Swisscom Setup
• Implementation ADSL-Router and configuration MPP and APs on the campus.
• Test PWLAN Swisscom and seamless roaming
