|Ticket Description:||Possible router failure at ZHAW Winterthur|
Problem Description:The SWITCH access router swiWI2.switch.ch is showing ECC memory errors.
The router is still able to forward traffic, however performance degradation may occur. So all traffic through swiWI2 has been re-routed via swiWI1.switch.ch.
Connectivity to/from ZHAW Winterthur is ensured by the redundant IP access by swiWI1.
Affected:From 2009-08-28 12:00 until 2009-08-28 15:35
Impact: no more redundancy
The replaced network processor engine has been running stable so far. However the available RAM has been reduced from 1GB to 256MB and further hardware replacements might be undertaken. Closing ticket.
The new NPE_G1 (router main board) has been installed in WI2. The problem is solved. Traffic is now flowing over the usual path through swiWI2.
SWITCH network engineer is underway to Winterthur with a replacement board.
We have contacted ZHAW IT help desk to organize the replacement. Local Network staff is not available cause of an excursion. We are awaiting confirmation to access the ZHAW premises.
The router swiWI2 has been isolated, all traffic now flowing through swiWI1. Emergency reload didn't stop the memory problem. We decide to replace the router processor board.
