Ticket Description: Loss of DNS reverse-delegations for various IPv4 legacy blocks

Problem Description:

We have received reports that a number of reverse-delegations for legacy IPv4 blocks have disappeared from ARIN name servers. As of this writing, there is little known about the reason and scope of the problem. A thread on the NANOG mailing list suggests that the problem has started yesterday at around 16:30 UTC. No statement by ARIN is available at this time.

A quick survey has identified at least the following ranges to be affected:

148.187.0.0/16
155.228.0.0/16
148.196.0.0/16
144.200.0.0/16

Missing reverse delegations can cause delivery of email from those ranges to be refused by the receiving MTAs.

RIPE has been informed about the problem (these delegations are maintained by RIPE and transferred to ARIN) but no feedback has been received yet.

Actions:

RIPE has issued a statement about the problem:
https://www.ripe.net/support/service-announcements/reverse-dns-issue-for-some-delegations-in-the-ripe-ncc-service-region

Reverse zones hosted by ARIN have been fixed. However, the zones

153.in-addr.arpa
163.in-addr.arpa

hosted by APNIC are affected as well. RIPE is still working on a solution.

This ticket is now closed. Please refer to the URL above for further updates by RIPE.

It appears that the issue has been resolved but information about the cause is still not available. Please contact noc@switch.ch in case you still experience any problems, but be aware that disruptions are still possible for some time due to negative caching in the DNS system.
