Point2Point Link
A point-to-point link is a statically configured connection between two locations in the SWITCHlan network, with no connection to the SWITCHlan IP service. Point-to-point links can be implemented between any locations where SWITCH has already deployed dark fiber. The point-to-point links are protocol transparent in the sense that they simply carry Ethernet frames. A point-to-point link over SWITCHlan may be concatenated with a link over GEANT2, making it possible to build a transparent and dedicated connection between a Swiss university and international universities or research sites. Whenever the structure of SWITCHlan allows it, SWITCH offers two different flavours of P2P links:
- a fully redundant Ethernet tunnel (EoMPLS) between two SWITCH access points with access bandwidth of either 0.1, 1 or 10 Gbit/s.
- a 1 or 10 Gb/s optical channel based on a specific CWDM or DWDM colour
