How universities sign up for this service
Any Swiss university that is already a SWITCH customer can use the SWITCHsms service. We offer the universities two options for sending their messages – either "by web " or "by e-mail". Here you will find all instructions on how to make the two options available to users belonging to your university.
1. Registration
You can send SMSs and also fax and pager messages in the form of an e-mail. Access authorisation is checked by means of the IP address, the host name or the domain name. Each university is free to decide for itself on the type of authorisation. Monthly aggregated use statistics for each university can be supplied on request. To register for this SWITCHsms service you must work your way through the following steps:
- Send an e-mail to postmaster@switch.ch, stating which organisation you belong to.
- The e-mail must include the IP address, the host name or the domain name through which the service is to be used internally. Usually, that will be one or several of the university's mail servers.
- Give us a billing address for charging for the SMS service.
Once that has been completed, it will be possible to use the SWITCHsms service.
2. Additional conditions for SMS by web
Every university must specify the name of one person responsible for administration. This administrator has control over the limits, has the right to see the statistics and is also authorised to appoint further administrators. Access for "SMS by web" is governed by AAI. The administrator of an AAI home organisation is able to set monthly limits for users and can consult the latest use data.
