From the idea through to a successful service for the university community

SWITCH has developed the "Innovation Engine" to power new areas of activity and ideas. The intention is that it should take up, analyse and, where appropriate, implement valuable suggestions from all those at the universities.

Why an engine for new ideas?
About ten years ago, SWITCH's strategy could be explained in just a few words: to set up a high-performance glass fibre network for the Swiss universities. Today, the challenge lies in tracking down precisely those internet services which it would be appropriate for SWITCH to offer on an exclusive basis. To put this search for internet services on a systematic footing, SWITCH has opted for professional innovation management with its Innovation Engine, and the SWITCH Community can make a major contribution to this.

Innovation

Positioning, verifying, further developing
In the Innovation Engine, everything that has potential is collected, analysed, evaluated and, if it shows promise, further developed into a productive service. All the members of the SWITCH Community can "feed" the SWITCH Innovation Engine: with worthwhile concepts, project ideas or innovative ideas from the field of information and communication (see the form alongside). The outcome is an innovative service benefitting not only the person who has submitted the idea but also the entire Swiss university landscape.
