Early recognition, positioning and further development: this is what is involved at SWITCH when it comes to promoting precisely those ideas that offer the highest added value for Swiss universities. This is why SWITCH has created the Innovation Engine – a combination of an ideas pool and an innovation process. It is here that all the ideas that SWITCH and the university community come up with are brought together.

The Assessment Centre for new ideas
The ideas pool is the filter through which all new ideas at SWITCH have to pass. If these ideas develop into a service that is required by the university community, they will be subjected to an intensive selection procedure in the innovation process. Only then is the decision taken as to whether the service will be implemented by SWITCH.

2008-2011: from a scenario for the future to Strategy 2020
Where will SWITCH be in 15 or 20 years' time? In order to establish this, SWITCH has relied, as of an early stage already, on adopting a proactive approach and having a well thought-out forecasting strategy: in 2008, the compilation of SWITCH's Long-term Development Prospects (LDP) provided the basis for its Strategy 2020. Building up on LDP, SWITCH has defined future-oriented, strategic aims – so that it can respond to the requirements of the Swiss university world in future too.
