About ten years ago, it was possible to sum up SWITCH's strategy in just a few words: building up a high-performance glass fibre network for the Swiss universities. Today, the challenge lies in establishing precisely which internet services it would make sense for SWITCH to provide on an exclusive basis. In order to put this receptiveness to customer requirements on a systematic footing, SWITCH is working on the basis of professional innovation management with its Strategy 2020. Precisely in the academic field, the technologies employed are subject to ever faster development – as are the needs of the user groups too. The Innovation Engine has been designed to ensure that SWITCH remains one step ahead.

Positioning, verifying, further developing
The Innovation Engine comprises the ideas pool and the innovation process. The latter clearly positions potential and existing spheres of action in relation to each other, examines them in detail and dynamically further develops them. And the result? A profitable closed-loop system between innovative ideas and the needs of the university world. SWITCH is thus making a key move towards dynamic service optimisation.
