AAI-enabling Web Resources - November 2004

The workshop provided an overview about AAI and its features. The focus was on the integration of all kind of web resources into AAI.
Apart from static content, many web applications (based on PHP, Perl, ASP, etc.) use an Apache or IIS web server as their front end. Shibboleth provides a mechanism to pass user attributes to these applications. In case an application is personalized, AAI can ease user management and improve the quality of local account data.
Other types of web servers (such as Tomcat) can use Apache or IIS as a front end which offers a way of integrating them into AAI.

AAI-enabling IIS Web Servers - October 2004

Shibboleth - and thus the Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) - natively supports Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) servers (versions 4, 5 and 6). Therefore, IIS servers can be set up to grant controlled access across inter-organizational boundaries. Apart from static content, many web applications (e.g. based on ASP, PHP, ...) run on IIS web servers. Shibboleth provides a mechanism to pass user attributes to these applications. In case an application is personalized, AAI can ease user management and improve the quality of local account data.

The workshop provided an overview about AAI and its features with regard to IIS. The goal was to enable participants to integrate an IIS Web Server into AAI. Furthermore, advanced user management and protection of web site content was shown at the example of AD Learn.

AAI-enabling Apache (1.3 and 2.0) Web Servers - July 2004

Shibboleth - and thus AAI - natively supports Apache web-servers (versions 1.3 and 2.0). It is straightforward to allow inter-institutional access to content provided by an Apache server. In addition to that, many web-applications (based on PHP, Perl, etc.) use Apache as their front end. Shibboleth provides a mechanism to pass user attributes to these applications. In case an application is personalized, AAI can ease user management and improve the quality of local account-data.

The workshop provided an overview about AAI and its features with regard to Apache and Apache-based web-applications. Participants should be able to start integrating content and applications.

AAI-enabling WebCT CE and WebCT Vista Servers - June 2004

The Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) allows inter-institutional access to e-learning courses running on WebCT servers. Furthermore, AAI can ease user management and improve the quality of account-data within WebCT.

The workshop provided an overview about AAI and its features with regard to WebCT. Participants should be able to start integrating WebCT courses or WebCT servers with AAI.

Workshop on Integrating User Directories - March 2004

With the architecture selection process finished, the AAI project team invited all the people who will or plan to work on AAI related pilot projects during the next months.

Through the pilot project coordination workshop the requirements and dependencies of the individual projects were clarified. The intention is to prevent that e.g. a resource is ready but the users of that resource are not able to use the AAI. Cooperation is important for the bootstrapping process to succeed.
