Data protection law and telecommunications law in the Internet of Things

This article examines the data protection and telecommunications law requirements and framework conditions for the introduction of an internet of things offering based on the LoRaWAN technology at two Swiss universities. The authors conclude that there is nothing fundamental to the introduction of a LoRaWAN service from a data protection and telecommunications law point of view, provided that certain precautions are taken in the operation of the LoRaWAN service and, where necessary, the prerequisites are created.
