The National AI Initiative for Precision Oncology (NAIPO) is a flagship Innosuisse project that will transform cancer care in Switzerland by integrating advanced AI across the patient journey. The consortium is led by the two AI Centers at EPFL and ETH Zurich. Over a period of four years, it unites leading Swiss universities, public and private Swiss hospitals, companies, and startups to accelerate innovation, lower costs, and position Switzerland at the forefront of personalised oncology through modern data platforms and AI-optimised diagnostics and treatments.

Switch is proud to announce its project partnership with NAIPO – National AI Initiative for Precision Oncology. This new national initiative aims to develop a secure, Swiss-hosted infrastructure to enable AI-enhanced precision oncology across Switzerland while ensuring that sensitive and personal health data remain protected. With Switch Cloud, NAIPO benefits from a trusted and secure infrastructure providing a maximum of digital sovereignty.
According to the Global Cancer Observatory, cancer remains one of the country’s most pressing public health challenges, with nearly 58,000 new cases and close to 20,000 deaths recorded in 2022. Achieving fully personalised care remains challenging due to fragmented data and limited integration across institutions.
Need for precision oncology
NAIPO, National AI Initiative for Precision Oncology, responds to this need with an integrated, AI-powered precision oncology platform to transform cancer care delivery. By applying advanced AI models at every stage of the patient journey, it aims to optimise diagnostics, personalise treatments, and support data-driven clinical decision-making.
Digital sovereignty with Switch Cloud
Secure, privacy-conscious collaboration is central to the initiative. 'This is where Switch Cloud comes into play, with digital sovereignty built right into the design', adds Visho Jesudasan, Head of Sourcing, Architecture & Operations at Switch. 'To protect sensitive data and maintain digital independence, all institutions involved need to be able to rely on a secure and trustworthy infrastructure that is governed by the universities themselves.'
